In the 21st century orthodontics is not only about teeth standing in line.
Nowadays we have four major goals:

1. A beautiful smile for which detailed plans are made before the commencement of the treatment,
2. This smile has to fit the character of the face which may differ from person to person therefore a facial aesthetics consultation precedes the treatment,
3. The upper and the lower teeth have to fit adequately to form a proper bite,
4. We would like to reach this goal by finding a ‘comfortable’ position for the mandibular joint which also depends largely on the position of the teeth.

Why is it worthwhile to go along with it?

• Because if the treatment is started in infancy grave transformations may be prevented the correction of which in the adult age would only be possible with surgery. The smile of your child will be nicer and his face will be more harmonious-looking. According to surveys 65% of the minors would need orthodontic treatments.
• A beautiful smile gives you self-confidence.
• Teeth standing in the wrong position may decay and fall victim to gingivitis earlier.
• The improper bite may lead to problems in the mandibular joints (pain, clicking, brygmus…),
• and because today there is no age limit in orthodontics.

Some malformations may be easily treated with removable appliances in the childhood already.
For the treatment of other malformations fixed appliances are needed.
